How you spend the first hour of your day has a major impact on the rest of your day – and, therefore, your entire life. Creating a morning routine that establishes and improves our physical, emotional, and mental health is paramount.
It doesn’t have to take a lot of time! I’m going to challenge you to spend an hour taking back your morning, but you can just as easily do the same routine in 6 minutes! However much time you have, this routine will get you into the right frame of mind for a great day!
So let’s not waste precious time and learn about the routine that will challenge you to make your mornings magic (based on The Miracle Morning, by Hal Elrod),
There are six steps to our Take Back Your Morning routine:
Silence
Affirmations
Visualization
Exercise
Reading
Scribing
Let’s break down the first three pieces!
Silence – Goal: 5 minutes This could be meditation, prayer, or deep breathing. It could simply be sitting in silence. Whatever it is for you, the idea is to quiet your mind, block out the outside world, and start your day with calm. Start to think about what this might look like for you! If you don’t know where to start, try these:
Affirmations – Goal: 5 minutes Get ready to speak positivity over your life!! We’ve got some great affirmations (positive statements) for you to incorporate into your life and your goal will be to spend approximately 5 minutes repeating these statements.
I personally use this set of 60 Affirmation Cards
Visualization – Goal: 5 minutes You are going to visualize the things you want to bring into your life (whether that’s a new job, a happier marriage, completing a half-marathon, etc.) and try to FEEL how you would feel once you have accomplished that. This daily practice of visualizing your dreams as if they are already complete can accelerate your achievement of those dreams, goals, and ambitions!
Perhaps out Visualization focuses on our Affirmations!

Exercise – Goal: 20 minutes This can look however you want! Maybe you go for a walk or a run, maybe you hit up the gym. Even 10 jumping jacks is better than nothing! If you need some good at-home workouts, sign up for my monthly virtual class subscription (first 3 days are free)!
Reading – Goal: 15 minutes You want to find something positive and inspiring to read (or listen to, like an audiobook or podcast). Check out my personal development book recommendations for all areas of your life! Download the list here
Journaling (Scribing for the acronym’s sake!) – Goal: 10 minutes You have some choice here! You can write about whatever you want for that day, you could write your affirmations, or you could choose from my journaling prompt list.
Ok, so you’ve got all your resources. All you need to do now is make your plan and write it down to solidify what you will do and for how long each morning and decide when you are going to start.
And the last step…make it a habit. Doing this morning routine once or twice won’t make a huge impact on your life…but staying accountable to it 5, 6 or even 7 days a week will. Believe me, you might have some challenges at the beginning…but with time, you will get better at it.
What I have found is that accountability is key in all aspects of life. Fitness, nutrition, business, and this morning routine. So use the Morning Routine Accountability Tracker to stay on top of this commitment to you and those people it will positively affect in your life.
Let me know how you do! Let me know if you struggle or triumph. I would love to hear about your best affirmations and journal prompts, what best calms your mind into silence when you wake up in the morning. Ask me about the best fitness routine for you, and tell me what activities seem most productive for you!
Write me here…and in the mean time, Rock Your Morning and Rock Your Life
